A stunning 20th century hand carved Replica of Greek Roman Marble Torso. Torso of a man in contrapposto. Engaged left leg. Clearly defined musculature with pronounced inguinal folds. Pubis articulated. Roman copy after a Greek statue type of the 5th century B.C. Shoulder mantle possibly an addition by the Roman copyist. Point of attachment for a support on the outer face of the left thigh. Hole for a tang towards the rear of the neck. The torso is carved from weathered statutory marble on a travertine base.
